Review and Reflect
Well I think I have made a good start on the Chandelier web-site in as much as I am starting to like the look of it. I also have a couple of other sites which I have done for friends which I have put Amazon and Adsense on in the hopes I can get the odd bit of commission in return for a free web-site. (www.gallowaycontrols.co.uk, www.serenitybookkeeping.co.uk)
Adsense…
Found it, the breakdown is ‘Home’ > ‘Detailed Reports’ > ‘Sites’ and it tells me which sites have been earning what money.
I have to admit I was a little skeptical as to whether Adsense would work for me or not but thought I had nothing to lose and I have been pleasantly surprised… Go George!!
Adsense update
Quick update – Adsense has earned me £2.24
It’s a start if nothing else… Yey!!
Haven’t done much else on the websites which I need to as I have loads more funky lights still to add, and I still have my new domain name to buy. (I wanted to see if I could earn enough to be able to pay for my next domain name from my affiliate proceeds) So need to spend some more time on it.
Only thing is I can figure out how to see which adsense sites have earned me that £2.24 as I have ads placed on my affiliate site and a couple of others I have created.
If anyone knows please let me know… Thx
Quick update
I’ll admit it, I haven’t been online very much the past couple of weeks. I have been busy trying to sort out an immediate income and have just jumped ship to a new Kitchen company that also does Bathrooms & Bedrooms. Which is great for me in the long term but I have a lot of new info to now catch up on and it has been very time consuming.
Therefore this is the first I have touched any websites for over ten days, checked my accounts and Ihave earned a big fat zero in that time… not even a 5p.
Oh well, just have to keep plugging away at it.
See you soon
Uklighting-chandeliers.com is now set-up…
I had posted previously that it was looking cluttered and too much like an amazon store for my liking. I have slimmed it down, to try to make it easier for anyone to display the page. and slimmed the text boxes down even further to give me more white space. I think it looks better, and I have rearranged the menu. I don’t like to be faced with too many choices initially, I don’t think people can be bothered to read loads of menu items, at least I don’t, so I have placed all the different styles under the parent of ‘Styles’, but I have direct access to the different syles down the side like a secondary menu with a highlighter for with page you are currently on.
That way I can also add other pages such as contact or about me under the home page, and perhaps more detailed advice etc under the newly named ‘Advice’ page, formerly known as installation, so I can have a maintenance page and an installation page etc.
So now I am happier with the layout I can concentrate on adding the actual chandelier items. I hope to add half a dozen each week other commitments allowing.
And my £4 income by the way was from two links from this site not my new lighting site. I have yet to have a sale through that one but I can see the views are very slowly increasing, nearly double figures. So maybe in a few months I will have had a couple of successful click throughs.
Adsense Approved
I have been deemed worthy and can now add any Adsense HTML to any site as long as do not break their rules, which seem quite simple albeit strict.
And total earnings to date £4.07 … oh the giddy heights
My only concern now is that I have filled the site too much with ads from Amazon, would appreciate some comments / feedback if anyone out there is reading my drivel.
Google Adsense
Well I finally got some half decent text into my website so there is now content in the Home and installation page. I have gone right through Amazon to choose their affiliate products and for each one I hope to add some content. It will take me a while but I love interior design, especially lighting. I am even planning to go to the national lighting trade show (yes I am that sad) so it is not an onerous task by any standard. The next thing I hope to do is add recommended products from the likes of My Deco and John Lewis.
Which now means I can apply for an Adsense account… https://www.google.com/adsense because according to their blurb they need content for their little robots to crawl over so that the paid for Google ads are relevant to your website. So after opening the account and getting the HTML code, you have to upload it on your site and wait for up to 4 days before the blank space the HTML code leaves turns into lots of little adverts.
Once again if I had not read George’s book it probably would have taken me months if not years to have discovered this. So once again thanks George… > Get Out While You Can – Escape The Rat Race
RSS Feed… any help?
Hoping that someone can point me in the right direction on getting the RSS feed working.
Having installed Jetpack I seem to have been able to turn on social sharing, such as linked-in and Facebook and Akismet seems to be working well with the spam, both are free. So all in all it has been quite a good addition.
I’m off to prepare for New Year and a family get together tomorrow so Happy Hogmanay and see you next year.
My first commission…
Well the Amazon programme seems to be working, I appear to have earned my first £0.37. Is this a taste of things to come I ask my self? So thanks to the person that decided to click on one of my links. The countdown to Hubby’s redundancy is now 3 months and 37p is not gonna go very far. I hope that the Kitchen planning (day job) kicks off come January 1st.
Joking aside, at least I know that the Amazon account is set up correctly and (continue reading…)
Morning everyone!
I have just discovered Jetpack as a plugin. It is supposed to have lots of goodies including a subscription page, social media connection and a stats page. So will try a few of the options over the coming weeks. I found it recommended by WordPress.com when I was looking for info on designing my own page layout.
I will keep you posted
